Reporting a dispute to the insurer
2 min readIf one of your timestamped creations is copied, or if someone accuses you of infringement (using a protected creation without authorization), the legal protection included in your subscription can cover your defense costs. Here is how to use it.
Before reporting: three checks
The creation was timestamped by Ipocamp while your subscription was active: a deposit made before you subscribed is not covered. Your subscription has stayed active without interruption since that timestamp. The 3-month waiting period after subscription has passed.
Step 1: call legal information
Covéa Protection Juridique's in-house lawyers answer you by phone, Monday to Saturday. They help you assess the situation legally (identify the rights at stake) and conduct a conciliation phase (an attempt to reach an amicable agreement) with the other party before any lawyer steps in. Their contact details are in the information notice provided with your subscription.
Step 2: report the dispute to the insurer
The dispute is reported to Covéa Protection Juridique, within the time limits and following the procedure set out in your contract's information notice. Prepare your Ipocamp certificates and the matching original files, unchanged. Also gather anything showing the reuse (dated screenshots, links, copies) or the formal notice received, as well as your exchanges with the other party.
Step 3: support from a lawyer
If conciliation fails, Ipocamp refers you to a lawyer specializing in intellectual property and follows the case with you. Legal costs and lawyer's fees are covered up to €5,000 per dispute under the Individual and Independent Pro plans, and €10,000 under the Professional plan.
What to avoid
Ordering an official report on your own initiative when it is not urgent: it would remain at your expense. Modifying or re-saving the original file: its fingerprint would no longer match the certificate. Missing the reporting deadline set by your contract.

The exact terms (time limits, documents, caps, exclusions) are set out in the insurance contract and its information notice, which prevail over this page.
